I've written about IDEA and planning meetings in a couple of posts now, but I was not the first to cover these topics, so its time to give props to other bloggers and websites for braking the ground before me. Here are some of the best articles and posts I've found:
10 Tips to Parents to Improve Participation in IEP meetings. Randy Chapman provided 10 tips for those heading into a meeting a month before our blog went online.
How to Prepare for Your Child's IEP Meeting. Kristyn Crow's contribution to IEP prep will have been on the web for two years come March.
Preparing for IEP meetings. Pat Howey over at Wrightslaw gives advice on how to provide information and share concerns at a meeting. He also has an article asking, "Can the IEP Team Prepare a Draft IEP before an IEP meeting?" Of course, Wrightslaw includes many other articles on IEPs (check out their IEP page), its a good place for parents who want to learn to be an effective advocate for their child.
Preparing for an IFSP Meeting. Answers 4 Families provides one of the few 'prepare for the meeting' articles that focuses on IFSPs instead of IEPs--although most of the IEP meeting advice applies to both types of meetings. Another list of IFSP meeting tips can be found at 4 My Child.
Mothers from Hell 2 blog provides Advocacy Tips for Meeting with School or District Officials. I like this one a lot because it provides tips for before, during and after the meeting.
I also found some interesting blogs that discuss frustration with draft IEPs (or at least the way one was used in their meeting). I'm going to add some quotes and cites to these in the post on draft IEPs below.
